The 10th Medical Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy provides healthcare services to 30,000 beneficiaries, including support to the 4,000-member cadet wing. Their mission is to ensure medically fit forces, provide expeditionary medics, and improve the health of all we serve to meet our Nation’s needs. Today, more than 700 medical Airmen are deployed in more than 30 nations, supporting warfighters in a variety of ongoing an emergent contingency operations.

Specific Tasks:The duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Must have knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, medical assisting clinical procedures, patient care; emergency medical treatment to include cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications, vaccination procedures, allergen identification, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; prescription drugs and their administration; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, risk management, contingency operations, disaster prepared-ness, and chemical warfare; and transportation of sick and wounded: computer operations in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.

  • Serves as medical assistant performing patient care and administrative duties for outpatients.

  • Monitors and records age appropriate physiological measurements.

  • Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment.

  • Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.

  • Performs paraprofessional portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostics, and clinical procedures.

  • Records treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects.

  • Identifies patient problems and accurately notifies nursing/provider team of observations.

  • Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and training.

  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures.

  • Performs paraprofessional portions of physical examinations including age appropriate physical measurements.

  • Adheres to infection control procedures including the use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic techniques.

  • Performs central sterile supply duties.

  • Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventative maintenance and routine cleaning are per-formed as directed.

  • Performs medical records reviews and applies protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs. Requires access to review and document in electronic health record systems.

  • Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.

  • Prepares and submits administrative reports.

  • Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.

  • Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

  • Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other team members.

  • Conducts all other duties as assigned, commensurate with the scope of practice for Medical Technicians.

     

Other Tasks:

  • All contractors must meet their minimum MGMA performance standard, if applicable.

     

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Experience:At least 12 months of experience performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient setting within the last 36 months. Must have experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parenteral medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations and assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures, protocols and professional standards.

  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support:Current BLS with AED.

  • Degree/Education:Completion of high school (or GED) with courses in general science, biology, psychology and chemistry.

  • Primary Source Verification:Completion of a medical assisting program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health and Education Schools (ABHES) and certified through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA); or the American Medical

  • Citizenship:  U.S. citizenship. 

  • Credentialing:   

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.  

  • Current physical and immunizations.   

      

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Previous experience working with the military population.  

      

Work Location, Hours, and Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical Requirements: You will be working in a military treatment facility and must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift. 

  • Hours of Performance: Monday through Friday 8-hour shifts. The work week is 40 hours. Current shift is: 0730-1630 (8-hours).

  • Scheduling: The work schedule will be determined by the government supervisor. Any changes to the schedule will be coordinated through the Clinic Manager or designated representative and shall be mutually agreed on between the MTF and the contractor.

  • Place of Performance:HCWs shall receive a 2-week notification prior to the reassignment to another location with a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.
