UCHealth Clinical Instructor RN-Professional Development in Aurora, Colorado


Functions as a competent clinical nurse responsible for the coordination, supervision, and evaluation of nursing student educational experiences. Includes a clinical faculty appointment at the University of Colorado-Denver College of Nursing, practicing within the Clinical Scholar model.

This positon is a blended role position with responsibilities in the New Graduate Residency Program; which currently is occurring with the position. This position includes both the clinical instruction and NRP coordination. The 1.0 FTE is .5 FTE clinical instruction and .5 FTE NRP coordination.

NRP Coordinator – Responsible for partnering with the Nurse Residency Program Manager to oversee the Metro Denver region of the Nurse Residency Program, including collaboration with Human Resources to recruit graduate nurses residents, the development and implementation of program curriculum, oversight of resident progression through program components and development of innovative strategies for retention.

Work Schedule: Full Time Days


Facilitates hospital orientation for nursing students. Collaborates with the academic institution’s course coordinator to plan course content, objectives, and learning activities. Coordinates student nurse clinical experiences in collaboration with nurse educators and preceptors.

Provides clinical supervision and evaluation of students, in coordination with assigned preceptors. Coordinates and conducts clinical conferences with students, to meet the educational objectives of the course.

Participates in direct patient care activities to maintain clinical competence. Independently administers medications per licensure authority, assesses and reassesses effects of these medications, documents administration in a timely manner per policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Provides assistance and consultation to preceptors for problem-solving and implementation of course objectives. Collaborates with leadership to develop goals and objectives for education and training programs as assigned. May include Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds: Advanced Care Partner Program: Basic and Advanced Preceptor Program(s); and RN Orientation. Supports efforts in professional nursing practice quality and outcomes activities. Maintains and reports on

outcomes data related to assigned program.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.


  • BSN from an NLN or CCNE accredited program.

  • Internal: Enrolled in a MSN program, to be completed within 5 years or post hire plan for MSN program.

  • Preferred: Advancement to Level III in the UCH UEXCEL program.

  • External: BSN from an NLN or CCNE accredited program and MSN in nursing management or nursing education.

  • State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider

  • 3 years of recent clinical experience in specialty or related area.

  • Will support/coordination work in the UCH Graduate Nurse Residency Program.

  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
