Summary of Position

The Communications Manager will develop and implement strategic communications that promote and share Pharmaca stories across the business, including retail locations, pharmacy, and online. This person will be responsible for developing and executing programs that elevate perception, increase awareness and drive strategic messaging both internally and externally. The role is based in Boulder, CO and reports to the Vice President Marketing & Ecommerce.

We’re seeking highly strategic and creative communications professional with a proven track record managing national and local media relations and communications programs for high-profile brands that drive results to achieve key business goals. The successful candidate has a passion for natural health, wellness and beauty and promoting healthy lifestyles.


  • Collaborate with internal Brand Marketing, Email, and Social Media teammates and external PR agency partners to develop and execute comprehensive Brand, PR, and Influencer Marketing programs that increase awareness, grow traffic and drive revenue growth for retail stores, pharmacies and online

  • Ensure message consistency and alignment with Pharmaca’s overall communications program and strategic direction

  • Write and edit content for marketing social and online communications content – includes website, store materials, signage, email, and social media.

  • Collaborate with email marketing manager to plan and direct email marketing communications

  • Cultivate strong working relationships with cross-functional teams (Merchandising, Marketing, Store and Pharmacy Operations, HR, Social Media, Event Marketing, etc.) to provide strategic advice and communications support

  • Engage in effective media relations by building relationships with key trade and business media outlets / reporters; identify opportunities to garner positive media coverage and working with PR agencies to plan, pitch and target media outlets / reporters; prepare company spokespeople for media interviews; and develop press releases, talking points and media lists as needed.

  • Work with VP Marketing & Ecommerce to create external corporate communications strategy that builds executive presence within the industry, drives corporate thought leadership, and effectively communicates our business strategy

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to craft engaging messages, news releases, pitches, and written content

  • Strong storyteller with the ability to craft compelling narratives leveraging written and visual mediums (photo, video, digital, design)

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where flexibility, creativity, and collaboration are keys to success

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Thorough proficiency in Microsoft Excel; MS Word, MS PowerPoint required

  • Collaborative work style

  • Experience with social media platforms and email marketing

  • Ability to interact effectively with leaders at all levels of the organization and serve as a brand ambassador for both the Marketing team and the company

  • Superior organizational, planning, project and time management skills

  • Self-starter who takes initiative to proactively drive efforts


  • BS/BA degree in communications, public relations or journalism

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a professional communications role, preferably in a retail setting

  • Minimum 3 years proven copywriting, editing and proofreading experience specific to an online environment

  • Passion for B2C customer communications

  • Ad copywriting experience a plus

  • Proven excellence in writing, editing, project management and prioritization

  • A high degree of self-motivation, creative and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to execute and coordinate projects efficiently and effectively
