Where You Will Work

Located in Boulder, Colorado, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere -- the air around us -- and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Sun’s core. We manage the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community.

What You Will Do

This position is responsible for administering, configuring, and overseeing governance activities for the Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) application. The position serves as an HCM product specialist and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the assigned system(s) and for related business processes to ensure that they meet current and future needs for all stakeholders.

The Analyst is responsible for the administration and governance of the Workday platform including Core HR, Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Manager and Employee Self Service. To be successful, the candidate in this position must build and maintain professional relationships with key colleagues and vendors and be able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, explain complex concepts, bring business insights, and drive process improvements. Attention to detail and mindfulness of the big picture is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities include:

Product and Process Management

  • Leads the configuration and validation of UCAR cloud applications, including administration and maintenance of organization hierarchies, workflow configuration, business process configuration, master data, and embedded business rules.

  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, enhancing, and managing business processes per product standards. Monitors and maintains the business process steps, business rules, roles, and organizations associated with each process.

  • Serve as primary point of contact ensuring data integrity, maintenance, system modifications, report writing, document maintenance, system audits, troubleshooting tenant configurations and integrations and make recommendations for process changes.

  • Develops and manages the creation, and updating of all system roles and security profiles. Determines and grants user role assignments and permissions in the platform and performs periodic audits with system owners to ensure users access privileges are regularly reviewed, separation of duties are enforced, financial controls are maintained and guidance is provided to users on system security capabilities.

  • Researches vendor product to stay current on new and existing functionality. Considers future product capabilities in current designs.

  • Develops implementation strategies for bi-annual releases and upgrades, maintains and prioritizes change requests, enhancements, and adoption of new product features by partnering with functional managers and vendors. Translates items into product roadmap and planned release schedules.

  • Directs and coordinates with stakeholders from Human Resources and Treasury and Finance on the timing and rollout of system configuration and business process changes and “go-live” decisions to leverage software enhancements and new releases.

  • Lead and manage the implementation of all scheduled and ad-hoc releases, including the coordination and assessment of impact on other corporate applications and integrated systems.

  • Monitors system to ensure it is functioning properly; troubleshoots issues and leads the issue resolution process from end-to-end. Determines if resolutions include short-term workarounds or necessitate a long-term, comprehensive solution.

  • Plans, coordinates and executes quality assurance testing for new releases, workflow, and configuration changes.

  • Updates and develops basic training and communication materials related to HCM, Payroll and Time Tracking systems. Coordinates advanced training and communication materials with the Learning Program Lead.

  • Evaluates and identifies opportunities to enhance user experience and increase adoption for HCM, Payroll and Time Tracking solutions to drive efficiency, reduce the cost of operations, and mitigate operational risk.

  • Perform routine report development using cloud analytics tools and coordinate complex report development with Engineering. Monitors routine reporting and dashboard deliverables and tools.

  • Analyze and interpret reports and spreadsheets utilized to build data files for mass data loads into the system.

Vendor Management

  • Serves as primary liaison and point of contact with product vendor(s) and provides guidance to internal resources.

  • Monitors vendor service level agreements and annual fees and identifies and resolves issues with the vendor, escalating issues to management when appropriate.

  • Stays abreast of vendor product roadmaps and makes recommendations to management how to leverage new features.

  • Coordinates with vendor on reporting and resolution of Service Requests in vendors Customer Support system

  • Participates in Industry Advisory Councils or Product Advisory Groups with the Vendor Product Manager(s)

Application Support

  • Performs direct support to internal and external users of the systems; researches and resolves issues involving the business process steps and system configurations.

  • Provide support to end-users, answering questions, resolving issues, and following through on any reported or unresolved issues ensuring timely and reliable response.

  • Utilize JIRA service desk to monitor and track all end user issues and change requests.

  • Frequently monitors integrations in Workday.

What You Need

Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, computer science or related field.

  • 5+ years HR technology experience required with direct responsibility in the areas of HRIS implementations, vendor management, configuration and workflow maintenance, and reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in and knowledge of general human resources, talent management, payroll, and time reporting work streams and practices, including human resources and financial applications and the application of appropriate internal controls.

  • Demonstrated experience administering and configuring cloud-based (software-as-a-service) human capital management, human resources, and payroll applications.

  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis and business process modeling, with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Experience developing reports and management dashboards using cloud analytic tools and business report writing software.

  • Experience working with various project management methodologies and leading practices (e.g. Agile, SCRUM, waterfall) to follow and implement a project schedule to meet critical deadlines. Includes, but not limited to, testing methodologies, change management, change control, defect tracking, and risk management.

  • Experience using issue and project tracking tools (MS Project, JIRA, etc.).

  • Organized and analytical, adept at working in a team environment, be detail-oriented with strong time management skills. Demonstrated organizational skills, including meeting facilitation and decision making. Excellent organizational skills demonstrated by managing multiple priorities/projects.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communications, including presentation skills. Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Must possess strong leadership, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills.

  • Proven ability to respond positively and productively to uncertainty, rapid change, ambiguity, and unexpected issues in the development process.

  • Proven ability to foster and sustain high-trust, high-performance team.

  • Strong technical aptitude, including solid understanding of basic information technology concepts, including transaction processing, object oriented/relational database systems, web technologies, and integration methods.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Workday HCM, Payroll and Time Tracking software solutions, preferably with experience implementing new applications from the ground-up

  • Professional experience in a higher education, non-profit, or research institution
