Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World ArchitectDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe primary purpose of this position is to manage design and engineeringprojects to be constructed at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) andauxiliary sites.Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform 'Project Manager' role for the USAFA (Owner) providingarchitectural and administrative duties.Serve as in-house architectural subject matter expert for Design andEngineering team.Consult other subject matter experts on Design and Engineering team forengineering issues.Be technical advisor to and coordinate with government and finance managersand contracting officers.Consult with KIRA operations, maintenance, programming, real propertyand environmental teams as required.Research project requirements and develop scope of work for projects of allsizes and complexity.Consult with facility users to determine functional and spatial requirements.Prepare reports and presentations evaluating project alternatives.Develop, prepare and administrate design packages for contractingArchitect-Engineer (AE) services.Prepare complete in-house design packages for selected projects.Develop procurement documents and packages for government and contractingapproval.Support pre-bid process with site visits and answer requests for informationfrom contractors.Provide technical evaluations and design reviews of contractor proposals andsubmittals. Perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSA Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from an NAAB accrediteduniversity program is preferred but not mandatory.Must be a Registered Architect (RA) with active Colorado license or be anapproved candidate for licensing within 1-year.Required skills and practical experience:In-depth experience with all aspects of architectural design, planning,interior design, basic engineering, drafting software, buildingmaterials, development of construction packages and construction compliance withExperience in project management, facility renovation, new construction,code compliance, cost estimating, historic preservation, mid-centurymodern architecture and sustainable design.Strong time management, organization and communication skills.Analytical abilities necessary to manage complex projects and contractmatters.Proficient use of MS Windows, MS Office, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.Ability to work independently or on a team and be able to switch tasks onshort notice.Practical knowledge of work site safety, occupational hazards and standardsafety practices.Other desirable skills or experience:Experience in many different project types including airfield, university,infrastructure, service and supply, administrative office, andlandscaping (refined and natural).Proficient use of AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Revit or willingness to learn theseplatforms.Ability to contribute with long-range community and academy planning.Background Clearance and Driver Requirements:Pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background, criminalrecord check and drug / alcohol test.
