Starting salary: $3139.00/mo

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

The position requires driving grounds related vehicles in all types of weather conditions.

The mission of the Department of Facilities Services is to serve the needs of students, faculty and staff by maintaining and enhancing the natural and physical environment of the campus.



/The key responsibilities include:/

  • Landscape Maintenance(all areas in the assigned zone): Provides landscape maintenance for the assigned zone; coordinates work with GNII to insure standards and practices are met. Work includes mowing, edging, aeration, weed eating, top dressing and seeding, fertilizing of turf, debris and trash clean up, minor landscaping, minor flatwork and sprinkler system repairs, and work includes fixing broken heads, and setting controllers. Plants should be maintained according to department landscaping standards and practices.

  • General maintenance(all areas in the assigned zone): All assigned areas will be checked daily to avoid any accumulation of trash and debris. Remove trash and recycle material per standards and practices. Clean outdoor tables when surfaces display dust or dirt on them. Sidewalks, entry ways and breeze pathways blown off on a regular basis. Document any walking areas needing repair work. Inspect tables, umbrellas, bicycle racks, hand railings, light bollards, light poles, benches, smoking butt containers, swing set, trash / recycle concrete enclosure and signage for cleanliness and deficiencies. Clean areas as identified and create work requests through TMA to correct deficiencies. Works in a safe manner. The position requires driving grounds related vehicles in all types of weather conditions.

  • Equipment and System Maintenance: Participates in the maintenance of equipment; this includes campus owned vehicles, gators, lawn mowers, tractor, trailers, sanders, snow plows, edger, skid loader, back pack blowers, chain saws, trimmers and spreaders. Participates in seasonal start-up and blowout of irrigation systems.

  • Snow and ice removal: Participates in the removal of snow and ice from campus. Provides sand for roadways and ice melt for walkways. Cleaning of sidewalks and roads after snow event. Operates heavy equipment (skid loader and dump truck) for snow removal and in support of campus operations.

  • Pesticide & Chemical Use: this position is to maintain knowledge and expertise in the proper use of standard landscape chemicals and pesticides. Apply pre-emergent chemical to all hardscape areas seasonally before weed growth occurs. Apply post-emergent chemical applications to all hardscape areas seasonally after weed growth has started.

  • Training: Minimum of 16 hours of training yearly relating to safety on the job and specific outdoor service methods

  • Other duties as assigned: Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager or Director. i.e… Emergency response.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One or more years' experience in a grounds & nursery field related to the work assigned to the position. (no substitutions allowed)

  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years' experience of progressively responsible grounds care and maintenance, greenhouse, or plant nursery general labor work appropriate to the job in a commercial or education work environment.

  • One or more years' experience demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: pesticide application, fertilizer application, landscaping and grounds keeping techniques in a commercial or education work setting.

  • One or more years' demonstrated experience using grounds operations machines/vehicles.

  • One or more years' experience in an Essential Personnel role.
