Essential Job Functions

This position is for East District / Fairgrounds

$41,238 Annual / Depends on Qualifications

Under the direction of the District Supervisor, oversees work crew and performs skilled, semiskilled and unskilled labor tasks associated with park maintenance, operations, and construction programs. Provides a professional example of work standards, ethics and positive attitude for colleagues. Serves as Supervisor as needed in their absence.

  • Coordinates day-to-day activities and provides direction, training and oversight to crew(s); performs supervisory duties in absence of Supervisor as needed.

  • Completes paperwork and special projects as assigned by the District Supervisor.

  • Performs unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in any or all of the areas of grounds maintenance, facility or equipment maintenance and construction, including turf and irrigation maintenance, horticulture activities, minor construction, facility cleaning, trash collection and winter snow removal.

  • Performs labor tasks required in the maintenance of park facilities, including the use and operation of specialized vehicles, equipment, and power tools as needed for assigned maintenance and improvement projects.

  • Operates light and heavy equipment and vehicles such as riding mower, skid-steer, backhoe, turf maintenance equipment and dump truck. Performs inspections, routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of assigned vehicles.

  • Identifies and recommends the need for various minor capital improvements to superiors within assigned areas which may include, but are not limited to, existing and potential safety concerns, turf, horticulture, forestry, irrigation, building and facility maintenance, construction and other programs. Determines additional supplies, tools or materials needed to complete recommended improvements.

  • Drives County vehicles and other equipment to perform assigned duties; operates all County vehicles and equipment per County fleet guidelines.

  • Coordinates the activities of volunteers performing related work, including training and scheduling.

  • Makes recommendations to District Supervisor regarding the performance and discipline of subordinates.

  • Records inventory data and completes weekly safety check lists and work orders.

  • Provides departmental support for special events and other activities.

  • Performs other duties as required.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in grounds maintenance or a related field required.

  • Leadership experience highly desired.

  • Knowledge of horticulture and landscape maintenance techniques, sprinkler systems, and related equipment operation.

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, painting, plumbing and minor electrical repairs.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with County staff and the general public.

  • Ability to effectively supervise the work of subordinates and ensure assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.

  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy labor in all types of weather.

  • Familiar with the safe operation of light and heavy equipment.

  • Must possess basic computer, e-mail and word processing skills.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Must pass conditional post offer physical examination, drug screen, background investigation and motor vehicle check.


  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Drivers license.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL Learners Permit within 6 months of hire.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL License within one year of hire.

Work Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outside in the field in various weather conditions. Requires physical effort to perform frequent lifting, bending and climbing. Requires lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis. Physical hazards may be present when mixing or working with chemicals, power tools, and motorized equipment. Required to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
