What You Will Do:
Space Domain Awareness (SDA) includes the effective detection, tracking, identification, and characterization of near-Earth satellites and space debris, and the understanding of any factor associated with the space domain that could affect space operations and thereby impact the security, safety, economy, or environment of our Nation and its allies.
Satellite Mission Engineers support Numerica?s growing program in SDA through the design, implementation, and execution of space-based SDA missions (in collaboration with our mission partners) through modeling and simulation activities to inform spacecraft mission design, through the development of software solutions to facilitate spacecraft mission planning and mission data processing, and through the provision of spacecraft mission operations expertise.
The successful applicant will work on projects that carry varying responsibilities, such as:
Contribute to the direction of a talented small team with your expertise and ideas;
Perform trade studies to inform spacecraft mission design and systems engineering activities;
Support the development of a spacecraft mission planning system (scheduling, tasking, and commanding);
Support the development of a spacecraft mission data processing pipeline (image collection and processing, observation formation and calibration, data exploitation and dissemination);
Engage with our mission partners and key stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes for their mission-critical needs;
Support satellite on-orbit checkout and provide daytime staff support to mission operations;
Prepare technical reports and briefing materials.
Recommended Background and Experience
B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant work experience recommended, but 4+ years experience required (2 years credit given for an M.S.);
Proficiency with the Linux operating system and experience developing applications in at least two of the following software languages: Python, C/C++, MATLAB;
Record of academic excellence and demonstrated experience in spacecraft mission design, flight/ground software development, and spacecraft operations;
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to convey salient details about advanced technology in a compelling manner to both experts and non-experts alike;
Active DoD TS clearance with SCI eligibility is considered a plus.
U.S. Citizenship Required
Due to the nature of the work performed at Numerica, all applicants must be capable of obtaining a U.S. Security Clearance. At a minimum, this requires that a candidate be a U.S. citizen with a personal history indicating trustworthiness, reliability, and sound judgement (e.g., clean criminal record, no use of illegal drugs, etc.).
Salary range: $79,400-$161,800 estimated annual base salary plus incentives
