MITRE’s Defense Systems Engineering Department (N222) is looking for a Lead Test and Evaluation (T&E) Engineer experienced with the Department of Defense (DoD) Acquisition Life Cycle. The successful candidate will work with a team of subject matter experts to apply data science and advance statistical methods to develop, monitor, and evaluate specific integration and test activities; assess the adequacy of existing T&E strategies, infrastructure, and resources to accommodate effective and efficient planning, design, execution, and analysis of statistical tests and; identify areas where research and development of statistical and mathematic techniques are needed to strengthen T&E infrastructure, resources, and assets.
Develop, monitor, and evaluate T&E activities of major DoD defense acquisition programs.
Provide statistical expertise on subjects such as design of experiments, Bayesian analysis, and empirical modeling to acquisition programs.
Perform independent assessments of performance, readiness, interoperability, and cyber security to transition into Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E).
Translate system requirements into appropriate risk and performance metrics and assess the feasibility and robustness of planned T&E activities to capture them.
Participate in defining and designing developmental and operational Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) environments to efficiently and effectively test and evaluate defense systems of systems (SoS)
Conduct analysis using statistical software and programming languages (e.g., R, MATLAB, Python, JMP).
Explore, develop, and implement new statistical and data science methodologies and techniques applicable across multiple subject matter domains such as defense and homeland security.
Perform out-reach to major program offices to facilitate insertion of T&E activities earlier in the acquisition process.
BS and 8 years related experience
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or Mathematics
In-depth understanding of the DoD test and evaluation domain
Recent experience with integrated, developmental, or operational test and evaluation of DoD Systems
Knowledge of, Design of Experiments, data analytics, and verification and validation methods.
Proficiency in one or more of the programming languages for quantitative analyses (ex. MATLAB, Python, R).
Understanding of Digital Engineering, Risk Assessment, Cyber Security, Statistical Engineering, Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) environments, and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies and techniques
Strategic thinker; proven leader; effective individual contributor; detailed oriented; strong written and verbal communication skills; effective technical presentation skills
Active top secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Demonstrated skills and abilities leading and directing the resolution of critical technical issues related to the integration, test, and evaluation of complex naval weapons systems and missile defense capabilities
Knowledge and in depth understanding of DoD acquisition regulations and procedure
Experience with software systems, cyber security, interoperability, and software testing required
Ability to perform outreach activities with the sponsor and other stakeholders
Ability to articulate T&E capabilities and requirements to the T&E Community, including senior military and civilian executives
Knowledge in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
Understanding of the use of SysML, and/or UML
Experience using SysML tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, NoMagic, or other MBSE tools.
Knowledge in Uncertainty Quantification
