Denver Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Pediatrics - Neonatology in Denver, Colorado

Job Summary Denver Health is recruting for an intermittent/PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neonatology Division. Under general supervision, provides care of infants in the Level I (Well Baby) Nursery and Level II Nursery including admission and discharge assessments as well as on-going management and discharge planning. Functions as Advanced Care Provider support for residents and students. Provides teaching and procedural assistance for residents and students. Performs a range of minor procedures commonly performed in the Level I nursery and Level II nursery. Performs administrative support functions as required. Under general supervision, provides care of complex patients discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit, including well child care, coordination of care related to special needs, and ongoing management of chronic conditions. Functions as Advanced Care Provider support for residents and students. Performs administrative support functions as required. Ideal candidates should have 2+ years of experience.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing and successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program. Experience: Typically one year clinical experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of medical principals and procedures. Skill in performing physical exams and in formulation of assessments and treatment plans.. Ability to order appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Desire to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and review of current literature. Knowledge and accountability for department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other internal and external team members. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Ability to contribute to the development of staff by identifying learning needs and assisting with those needs. Certificate/License/Registration: Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR. Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant; must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner’s. OR Certification by a national certifying body approved by the Colorado Board of Nursing, with current registration with the Colorado Board of Nursing’s Advanced Practice Registry. Provisional or Full Prescriptive Authority, if eligible. Advance Practice Nurses without Provisional Prescriptive Authority must be actively working towards obtaining Provisional Prescriptive Authority within five years from date of hire. Advance Practice Nurses with Provisional Prescriptive Authority must be actively working towards Full Prescriptive Authority within five years after provisional authority is granted. Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. (examples: NRP, PALS, ACLS). All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
