This Solution Architect & Data Engineer position requires the candidate to have the ability to creatively leverage new and innovative (Microsoft Azure) technologies to successfully implement solutions for our clients and our business.

In this role our team member will be building enterprise cloud services that apply predictive technology to large volumes of data and against a wide spectrum of problems to derive business value through the adoption and Machine Learning (ML). If you have experience configuring and deploying Enterprise ML Services, Infrastructure & Models related to physical and natural systems we’d like to have you join our team. In this role you will get to work with a global innovation team and have a lot of fun helping our customers solve their Architectural, Environmental and Physical Engineering problems this is likely the position for you.

Your Key Responsibilities

Daily in this role the Solution Architect & Data Engineer will:

  • Plan, configure & manage resources in Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms.

  • Collaborate with the IT team to meet and exceed the strictest compliance requirements for cloud system security.

  • Enable the product and infrastructure engineering teams to build our world-class cloud platform, while protecting internal and customer data.

  • Assist customers by being able to deliver a ML project from beginning to end, including understanding the business need, aggregating data, exploring data, building & validating predictive models, and deploying completed models with concept-drift monitoring and retraining to deliver business impact to the organization.

  • Use Azure Services (e.g., Synapse, Data Bricks), ML platforms, and frameworks (e.g., MXNet, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SparkML, scikit-learn) to help our customers build ML models.

  • Research and implement novel ML approaches, including hardware optimizations on platforms.

  • Work with our other Digital Solutions Intrapreneurs (Applications Development, IoT, Digital Twin, AEC Engineering) to analyze, extract, normalize, and label relevant data, and with our Professional Services engineers to operationalize customers models after they are prototyped.

  • Refine Stantec’s Data Development Operations (SD2O) process including business requirements, user stories & design specifications & data orchestration for the Data Science & development teams to deliver upon & record the system.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years total of related work experience, including:

  • 4 year’s of experience in a DevOps position

  • 3 years of experience in the administration of enterprise-grade Azure infrastructures

  • Background in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Ansible & ARM Templates

  • Proficiency in infrastructure, service and application monitoring tools

  • Experience with HashiCorp tools (Nomad/Consul/Vault/Packer)

  • Familiar with Enterprise-level security protocols and methods such as web application firewalls, SSO & SAML, multi-factor authentication, federated identity

  • Experience with automated security tooling’s, such as vulnerability scanning, intrusion detection, and prevention

  • Familiar with agile processes/scrum and TDD, and continuous delivery

  • Experience in operating highly available and critical environments

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Azure AKS, DataFactory & Databricks

  • Experience with ML fields, e.g., natural language processing, computer vision, statistical learning theory

  • 2 years of industry experience in predictive modeling, data science, and analysis

  • Experience in an ML engineer or data scientist role building ML models

  • Experience writing code in Python, R, Scala, Java, C with documentation for reproducibility

  • Experience handling terabyte size datasets, diving into data to discover hidden patterns, using data visualization tools, writing SQL, and working with GPUs to develop models

  • Experience writing and speaking about technical concepts to business, technical, and lay audiences and giving data-driven presentations Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop strategic, baselined, data modeling processes; ability to accurately determine cause-and-effect relationships.

  • Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
