Denver Health WIC Educator Lead in Denver, Colorado

Job Summary Under general supervision, the WIC Educator delivers WIC services to participants by determining and documenting eligibility, maintaining participant and program records, interviewing and providing nutrition and breastfeeding education promoting behavior change. In addition, refers WIC participants to appropriate healthcare, community, and social service programs. As the WIC Educator Lead (Lactation), triaging pump referrals, ensuring breast pumps are issued in accordance to the Denver Health WIC Pump Policy and Procedure. In addition, maintains inventory of all breastfeeding supplies, assists with staff training and mentoring, assists with breastfeeding promotion, and completes high risk breastfeeding counseling.

Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED-equivalent. Additional education in nutrition, dietetics or directly related field and/or completion of a dietetic technician program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred. Experience: A minimum of six months of Denver WIC experience is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of basic spelling and math, including measurements used for weight, height, and length (fractions, pounds, and ounces). Proficient typing and bilingual skills preferred. Ability to: operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate and neat records; communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to: work as a team member; provide quality customer service skills in person and over the phone; promote breastfeeding and provide lactation support. Certificate/License/Registration: Level I and II certification completed for the Colorado WIC Program within 60 days of employment, Level III within 6 months of employment. CPR certification required within 6 months of employment. Lactation Management Specialist or Certified Lactation Counselor certification preferred. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
