Description of Work Unit
This position is in the Media Relations unit within the Division of External Relations. This unit is responsible for supporting the objectives of DER by generating and facilitating positive media coverage of the university, and by using data and analysis expertise to measure performance of communications initiatives and to inform strategies to boost future results.

The Office of the Vice President for External Relations oversees Marketing, Public Relations, Creative Services, and Web Communications. External Relations provides central marketing, media and community relations, design, photography, Web, and digital social media to build a strong, compelling and effective brand position for the entire university and its units.
Colorado State University is seeking an experienced, dynamic and creative data analyst to serve as part of CSU’s Division of External Relations’ award-winning media and public relations team.
Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs and Communications, the Marketing Analytics Coordinator will be responsible for curating data about media relations and public relations efforts – and analysis of that information – to measure and understand the impact CSU’s communications work has on various audiences, and to enhance future results. Some examples of job duties include (not limited to) search engine optimization, analyzing earned media and web results, creating reports, and finding innovative ways to use measurement and data to strengthen the work of the Division of External Relations in support of the university.
This position plays a key role within the Division of External Relations, the university’s central communications arm, and regularly consults with other communications professionals across the university. The Marketing Analytics Coordinator will collaborate with colleagues in the Division of External Relations to create and use forward-looking and innovative approaches to using data, as well as established techniques and benchmarks, to help tell CSU’s stories, build affinity, and increase the university’s profile and standing among external and internal audiences.
Required Job Qualifications
• Minimum of one year of professional experience as a data analyst with demonstrated ability to deliver analysis and forward-looking practical ideas that improve media relations and marketing content delivery. • Bachelor’s degree required in data-analysis related field such as business (with a data specific focus), journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field. • Demonstrated professional experience using data and search engine optimization (SEO) to strategically measure and increase influence of web pages, videos and other communications tools and vehicles. • Demonstrated professional experience using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, advanced formulas, etc) and with interpreting Google Analytics and/or other data tools to analyze and better understand audience behaviors.
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Graduate degree preferred, in business (data-analysis related field), journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related field. • Self-starter capable of working with little supervision but also comfortable with, and willing to, work in a collaborative fast-paced communications environment. • Ability to work with minimal direction and produce quality results in an efficient and timely manner, effective time-management skills • Innovative thinker with strong judgment and execution. • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present data in an engaging manner that tells a story of why the information is important, in a clear, concise manner. • Ability to positively and professionally represent the media relations and public relations units, the Division of External Relations, and Colorado State University both on-campus and in the community at-large. • Work experience in higher education, and familiarity with current higher education issues in the state of Colorado. • Demonstrated ability to interface with senior leaders to achieve strategic organizational goals. • Experience researching marketing trends and the ability to apply the gathered data into understandable and relevant reports • Exceptional organizational and project management skills. • Demonstrated knowledge of and relevant ability to work with culturally diverse communities.

Job Duty Category Data measurement, analysis and strategy development
Provide data-related leadership in strategy for distribution of media releases and media pitching efforts
Analyze media, public trends, best practices, and industry standards in data cultivation and analysis, as well as analyzing specific issues-of-the-day, to provide recommendations regarding strategic communications performance and strategy
Work with communications coordinators, photographers, videographers, social media and web content developers to optimize communication of the CSU brand and to promote individuals, initiatives and issues to a variety of external and internal audiences
Create strategic data-related strategies to boost effective communication about CSU’s brand to external and internal audiences
Provide leadership in use of media tracking tools to assess the success, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of CSU’s communications outreach efforts.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest tools and resources that will help drive reports and initiatives
Willingness to perform as part of a team while possessing a strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy, collaboration and high quality results
Use, and develop new ways of using data analysis to identify issues of public concern, and work with colleagues to develop and launch appropriate measures to strategically address these issues to position the university, its colleges, programs and units in the best possible light.
