TITLE: Criminal Justice OfficerSALARY: $18.46 - $21.98 HourlyLocation: Grand Junction, COBenefits: Eligible for benefits starting the 1st of the month, following30 days of employment.DESCRIPTION:Performs a variety of criminal justice duties related to the monitoring andcontrol of adult offenders in residential and non-residential CommunityCorrections Programs, including, Day Reporting Program, PretrialServices, Intensive Residential Treatment Center and Community ServiceDivisions. Provides crisis intervention and redirects behavior using behaviormodification techniques and skills.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functionsof the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that maybe required. All responsibilities may not beperformed by all incumbents.)Monitors a residential community corrections facility, 24 hours per dayensuring the security, safety and well being of the public, staff andclients by direct observation, use of video surveillance and monitoringalarms.Responds to client problems and/or inappropriate behavior; providescounseling to influence behavior modification; mediates disputes; exploresproblem-solving techniques; performs crisis intervention as appropriate.Provides additional supervision and monitoring of Division of YouthCorrections, Probation and Parole Offenders ensuring compliance withsupervision plans, program regulations and parole and probation conditionsin either a residential setting or while the client is living in thecommunity.Conducts interviews of defendants in detention facilities, writes detailedreports and provides information to the local courts; making bondrecommendations. Will also evaluate and recommend defendants for release fromdetention with supervision.Will closely monitor clients in the community to ensure compliance withprogram and court requirements by using electronic (Global PositioningSatellite Systems) monitoring.Administers drug and alcohol testing and collects urinalysis samples fortesting following evidence collection procedures. Will conduct home andemployment visits and responds to crisis and emergencies with assistance fromlaw enforcement.Initiates random and regular monitoring of clients; performs formal andinformal head counts; completes security rounds while on duty; supervisesclient behavior and activities; checks clients in and out of the facility.Conducts on-site employment visits and home visits. Responds to clientincidents, crisis and violations in the field and coordinates lawenforcement assistance.Provides client transportation to employment, counseling and medicalappointments. Provides medication monitoring, and collects money for depositinto client accounts. Uses various computer applications and document andenters data to record information.In accordance with the Division of Criminal Justice Standards conductspass,job, and authorized activity verifications; conducts client searches,vehicle searches and room searches, verifies employment search forunemployed clients. Will also transport clients from various correctionalfacilities, including to the local detention facility.Responsible for writing incident reports, application referrals, residentintakes and other administrative paperwork as required; May testify incourt, probation hearings or parole board hearings.Teaches cognitive problem solving skills in a group setting and intervenes inconflicts or problems that may arise.
