Job Summary

Responsible and accountable to the Vice President, Safety. The Director, Flight Safety provides oversight and administration of the Air Methods Flight Safety Program, to include the organization’s Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) and Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP/MSAP). Responsible to ensure proper coordination with all departments on the details of the FOQA, ASAP/MSAP, flight operations related Safety Reports, and AIDMOR trends and identified risks and mitigating actions. Acts as the Safety Department’s subject matter expert on flight operations and flight training.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide oversight and administration of the AMC Flight Safety Program to includ

  • The Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) Program to include identifying trends and working with the Flight Training department to mitigate related risks

  • The Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) for Flight to include identifying trends and working with the Flight Training department to mitigate related risks

  • The Aviation Safety Action Programs (MSAP) for Maintenance MS to include identifying trends and working with the Maintenance department to mitigate related risks AP

  • Ensure FOQA and ASAP are properly executed and staffed with qualified individuals

  • Effectively partner with field operations and corporate-based support functions in evaluating current and future business processes and initiatives that could affect Flight Safety. Ensure effective risk management practices are incorporated in all such efforts

  • Interface directly with the FAA, Company Directors, and Vice Presidents on all areas related to Flight Safety and ASAP Programs

  • Promote Air Methods’ safety culture through interactions/presentations with key stakeholders internally and externally throughout he Flight Safety and ASAP programs and industry safety conferences

  • Monitor safety issues, provide safety education, and investigate safety matters

  • Assist in the continuous improvement of hazard identification and safety risk management in the organization’s SMS program

  • Contribute to internal newsletters, communicating significant trends to stakeholders

  • Other Duties as assigned.

  • Regular scheduled attendance

  • Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling - 30%

  • Subject to applicable laws and Air Method’s policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position. All employees must follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises employees in the Safety department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and ten or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 5 Years management experience

  • FAA Pilot Certification: Commercial, ATP preferred

  • Work experience in Air Transport Flight Operations [14 CFR Part 135 or 121] preferred

  • Experience as an air medical services pilot preferred

    Computer Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • FAA Pilot Certification: Commercial, ATP preferred

    This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per the DOT/FAA requirements (pre-employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post-accident).

  • Hiring Salary Range: $97,850-$124,760

  • Bonus/Commission Eligible: Yes
