Charles Schwab Principal Solutions Architect - Wealth Management in Lone Tree, Colorado

Your Opportunity

SAMS Technology is aligned to support the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management Solutions (SAMS) which is a Schwab organization that unites money management, research, and asset management platforms for mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), managed accounts, alternative investments and insurance.

What you are good at

This is a lead solutions architect role in the SAMS (Schwab Asset Management Solutions) Technology Organization. The position will directly support the SAMS managed investing and advice technology platform and be responsible for defining and building the enterprise architecture to support the product roadmap. The advice technology platform supports Schwab’s Private Client offer for high net worth investors. The role will design and oversee platform development, integration with core Schwab domains, and drive enablement of new digital channels and experiences. The role is expected to follow architectural best practices and build scale and efficiencies that enable future business growth.

What you have

This role requires a highly motivated and experienced Architect with pride of ownership reflected through clean architecture design, code quality and a disciplined software development approach.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A university degree from a well-respected academic institution; advanced degrees in Information management, Computer Science, and/or other professional certifications are a plus

  • At least 10 years’ experience architecting and integrating 3 rd party internal and SaaS applications

  • Strong Java skills preferred

  • Experience designing and building large Cloud-ready highly scalable software particularly distributed, strong knowledge of integration design patterns and 12 Factor app

  • Prior wealth management experience or financial experience is a must

  • Ability to own architecture, including strategic direction and presentation of a vision for the future of the end-to-end Schwab Technology platform.

  • Ability to drive through, directly and through influence, efficient solution strategy, with agility and leadership skills which engineers recognize and respect.

  • Desire and ability to understand diverse business domains and develop architectures that meet the current and anticipated business needs across a broad set of partners.

  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and stay ahead of industry trends.

  • Good judgment and the ability to handle high pressure situations.

  • Experience with and knowledge of common Architecture patterns (e.g. microservices, GoF, SOA, Event sourcing, etc.).

  • At least 5 years of experience developing critical enterprise-grade cloud applications and fluent in Java

  • Experience or knowledge with Cloud Foundry and designing applications that can run in a cloud environment such as AWS or Google Cloud

  • Experience or knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery

  • Proven record of delivering technology solutions within agreed upon timeframes

  • Experience with regulatory and compliance solution and information security

  • Skilled communicator and negotiator with exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to forge relationships and become a trusted advisor with personnel of various levels and responsibilities, from business partners, to technology partners, to software engineers
