Position: Shelter Medicine CVT or Vet AssistantDuties: Process all incoming animals following applicable procedures,policies and protocols. Provide high level of patient care and appropriatefollow-up in conjunction with the veterinarians' direction for animals inthe shelter requiring medical treatment. Patient care may also include blooddraws, IV catheter placement, nursing care, radiology, anesthesia andsurgical preparation. Provide assistance with surgical procedures. Workcohesively with co-workers, other departments and volunteers. Assist thepublic in a professional manner.Clean and feed all animals in the Evaluation Center and Dog Isolation kennelsMedicate all animals utilizing the medical report twice dailyPerform all owner-requested euthanasia and all stray euthanasia when necessaryProcess each animal by examining and documenting in computer database allhealth information, vaccinations, any medical attention provided,veterinarians notes if medical care provided off site, presence of microchipand all animal description informationAssist veterinarian with public wellness examinationsNotify Associate Director or Shelter Manager if an animal needs euthanasiaNotify Staff Veterinarian if an animal requires emergency medical carePhotograph all animals upon intakeProcess animals according to established priority and protocolReview all e-slips by examining and medicating if required, moving animalinto appropriate isolation area, if required, and documenting appropriatelyStart medical treatment and provide nursing care directed by theVeterinarian, Veterinary Services Supervisor and/or previously establishedprotocols including but not limited to IV catheter, fluid therapy,bandages, ear cleanings, nail trims and medicationsPerform vaccinations and microchipping and document appropriatelyRe-evaluate behavior and medical reviews utilizing daily reportPerform monthly health checks and document all animals housed in the shelterlong termPrepare rabies specimens for health department testingCollect specimens such as blood, urine, ear swabs and stool for testingPerform laboratory testing such as urinalysis, ear cytology, fecal,heartworm tests, Parvo and FeLV/FIV Snap TestsClean, maintain and restock the Evaluation CenterCommunicate with customers, volunteers and co-workers in a professional,courteous and calm manner at all times ? Follow established policies andproceduresCommitment to the mission, vision, goals and success of HSPPRPerform weekly inventory as assignedSurgery Center Key Duties:Organize and execute surgical schedule for the day including up to 30 animalsMaintain assigned surgical box containing controlled substances andcorresponding drug logsProvide pre-medication, induction and post-op medications per veterinariandirection and previously established protocolsAssist and perform dental prophylaxisMaintain medical/surgical treatment record and report in an accurate andtimely manner and in accordance with HSPPR procedures, update records in theshelter databaseAdminister vaccines, microchips and document appropriatelyMonitor patient while under anesthesia and post-op recoveryExecute correct surgical prep technique and transferring animals to thesurgical tableClean and disinfect all surgical equipment, tables, ET tubes and toolsWrap and autoclave surgical packs appropriatelyAdminister treatment to Surgery Center animals, provide requested patientmedical care, feed and ensure proper diets are provided.Provide IV catheter, radiology and nursing care as directed by veterinarianAdminister medications IV, IM, SQ, PO, IP as directedEffectively and efficiently provide medical care in emergency situations asdirected by the veterinarianCommunicate with customers and other shelter staff concerning the health ofanimals in the Surgery Center. Answer general questions about HSPPR proceduresand veterinary care of animalsAssist in the maintenance of the Surgery Center equipment to assurecleanliness and safetyClean and disinfect the Surgery Cent
