PUEBLO COUNTY GOVERNMENT FURNACE SPECIALIST in PUEBLO, Colorado

Position: Furnace Specialist (100% Grant Funded)Duties:Work involves replacing and installing heating systems in homes requiringlicense as a qualified journeyman and/or heating contractor. Performsenergy audits of homes, furnace efficiency tests and furnace tune-ups.Removes and installs new heating systems in homes in accordance withapplicable codes and standards.Replaces furnaces, adapting duct work, venting and gas piping;repairs, replaces and seals duct work; checks for integrity of heatexchangers, and replaces heat exchangers and unsafe gas connectors.Cleans and tunes gas-fired furnaces to improve energy efficiency of units.Uses power tools and equipment of the trade including measuring instruments,gauges and hand and power tools to measure and calculate energy losses ofdwellings.Measures energy efficiency of home heating units.Conducts energy audits of dwellings.Completes paperwork and accurately documents material and labor usage.Records findings and prepares written reports.Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.Fills in for other staff as necessary and/or required.Attends meetings, classes and trainings as required or requested bysupervisor.Encouraged to recommend changes to improve procedures that would result inefficiencies, cost savings and safety.Communicates actively, clearly and regularly with supervisor and co-workerson all work-related topics.Understands, observes and complies with all Governmental, Pueblo Countyand Departmental policies, procedures and protocols when performing jobduties.Possesses excellent oral and written skills to communicate effectively.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Pueblo Countyemployees from same or different departments/offices, entities and customers.Effectively manages multiple projects at once.Effectively deals with stressful situations.Easily adapts to sudden and unexpected changes in work assignments.Physical DemandsCrouching, bending and stooping; lifting and moving heavy items;climbing and walking in attics and confined areas of dwellings.Requirements:High School Diploma or GED equivalency and successful completion ofapprenticeship in furnace installation required.Experience: Minimum of four years experience performing building energyconservation work or building construction and maintenance work that requiredinstallation of heating equipment required.Licenses and/or Certificates: Valid driver's license at the time ofapplication and a valid Colorado driver's license at time of hire required.Other Requirements:Knowledge of the materials, equipment and procedures required to accomplishenergy conservation improvements.Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to routineweatherization work in confined workspaces.Follow verbal and written instructions.Ability to work effectively with employees, agencies and the public.Knowledge of the furnace installation procedures and codes.Knowledge of basic mathematical skills.Full Proficiency:Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in reducing energy losses ofhomes.Supervise and mentor professional and support staff in a productive andpositive manner.Ability to operate the tools and equipment used in the work.Ability to clean, tune, repair and replace gas-fired furnaces, waterheaters, boilers and electrical heating systems.Ability to re-vent water heater, furnace and boiler flues and to replace,resize and re-route vents.Ability to perform equipment tests and trouble-shooting as well as makingnecessary repairs on equipment; provide thorough, detailed documentationon appliances serviced.Ability to assess and repair or replace duct work systems, includingfabrication and installation of sheet metal.Physical ability to perform strenuous duties in cramped and unconventionalwork areas.Expert Proficiency:Knowledge of applicable construction codes related to heating systems.Working knowledge of tools and materials required to accomplish work tasks.Background Check
