Chief Estimator

Position Title:Chief Estimator

FLSAStatus:Exempt, Salary

Location: Corporate Office, Wolcott, CO

Reporting Relationship:Chief Business Development Officer

Position Summary:

The Chief Estimator will provide leadership to a team of Estimators, across various locations, to include analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services with the goal of achieving corporate growth and project objectives.

This is exempt position under Federal and State Labor Law.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership, evaluate and develop estimating staff

  • Manage, coordinate, guide and oversee estimating activity to ensure the accurate preparation and submission of competitive proposals.

  • Manage schedule for all estimators and support all divisions estimating needs

  • Work closely with CBDO and Division Presidents on pricing and negotiations

  • Schedule hand-offs with division presidents and project managers

  • Responsible for turning out complete and accurate bids

  • Responsible for keeping the estimating department technologically current

  • Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.

  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.

  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data.

  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

  • Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.

  • Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.

  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies.

  • Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.

  • Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree and/or equivalent work experience of 5 years or more, preferred degree in construction management or engineering field.

  • Ability to read blue prints and preferred experience within masonry, plaster, stucco, concrete marble and granite trades.

  • Ability to work hours necessary to complete tasks on a daily and weekly basis, including the ability to change schedule on demand. May need to be available throughout the week or after hours as necessary.

  • Work requires an excellent command of English language.

  • Must have knowledge and proficient use of a variety of computer software applications in MS Office suite and estimating software.
