The Director of Surgical Services maintains 24 hour leadership accountability and responsibility for planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating surgical services throughout the OR, SPD, PACU, Pre-op, Acute Pain Service, Anesthesia, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Pre-surgical Planning departments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assumes overall leadership, strategic planning, staffing and coordinating of services for assigned departments. Stays abreast of current developments and trends in all relevant technical/professional knowledge areas.
Aligns organizational strategy, structure, people, and resources for long-term success.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, accreditation, and regulatory standards for health care organizations.
Maintains a professional, effective working relationship with all staff. Leads by example in employee pride and engagement.
Responsible for being visibly present to the OR, SPD, PACU, Pre-op, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Pre-surgical Planning teams as a resource and a manager.
Conducts audits, surveys, feasibility studies, and projects as directed and needed.
Collaborates with SPD and Materials Management in order to ensure timely instrumentation inventory, retrieval, and disposition of all surgical equipment.
Acts as a liaison and representative between Vail Health and Medical Staff/Surgeons.
Responsible for direct supervisory functions (hiring, orientation, productivity management, clear expectation setting, coaching, mentoring, supporting, scheduling, evaluations, and disciplinary actions).
Institutes practice changes based on findings from clinical monitoring, the evaluation process, and nursing research data.
Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
Take lead of hospital-wide clinical operations by serving as and performing duties of the Nursing Supervisor as needed.
Minimum of 5 years leadership experience. Orthopedics experience is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Colorado Registered Nurse license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) by The American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Bachelors required, Masters preferred.
