Job Title: Sheriff Deputy** Complete job description available from employer**Musts: Qualified candidates must be P.O.S.T. certified within 30 days ofhire; 21 years of age; have a High School Diploma or GED; must adhere topolicy, procedures and post orders. Background and drug screen are mandatory.Skills: The use of firearms and all assigned equipment utilized in theperformance of the essential functions of the position. Using tact,discretion, initiative and independent judgment within establishedguidelines. Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks;to understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, proceduresand protocols. Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.Preparing clear and concise reports,correspondence and other writtenmaterials.Duties: Patrols County roads, as well as, residential area to provide avisible deterrent in uniform and in marked cars and to enforce laws andprotect life and property; identifies traffic hazards; monitors industrialand residential areas for signs of any criminal activity ; patrols forsuspicious persons or vehicles. Detects drunk drivers and performs sobrietyevaluations, i.e., Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Evaluation, Walk and TurnEvaluation, One Legged Stand Evaluation, Preliminary Breath TestEvaluation as well as general observation of DUI suspects speech, appearance, comprehension of Instructions and performance; books DUI suspects andcompletes all related reports and records. Checks building doors, windows,gates and fences to ensure building is secured; reports any buildings,vehicles or equipment that is not secured; ensures the safety and well-beingof all employees on duty; learns employees working patterns and alerts themto possible suspects and crime prevention. Responds to calls for assistanceand complaints of crimes (burglaries, sexual assault , domesticviolence, etc ); enforces state statutes by performing warrants ,felony or misdemeanor arrest; implements physical confrontation whennecessary. Secures and protects crime scenes by establishing boundaries,detaining victims, suspects and witnesses , locating and identifyingevidence and briefing supervisors/investigators upon their arrival;preserves and collects evidence using proper methods; maintainsInterviews and interrogates narcotic trafficking suspects ; inputsintelligence information into the computer.Responds to special assignments , such as search and rescue, naturaldisasters as directed by supervisor. Maintains a working knowledge of alltraffic laws; enforces traffic laws through the issuance of traffic summonsand warnings, and arresting individuals in violation of the law such asDUI, and speeding and traffic control device violation when necessary.Prepares and maintains a wide variety of departmental records and reports incompliance with departmental policies and procedures; prepares and fileswritten and taped case reports outlining complete information regarding eachcase. Assists in search and rescue operations for missing and overduepersons, motorists and aircraft; assists in manhunts for dangerouscriminals and completes reports when appropriate. Serves criminal and civilwarrants. Researches and studies departmental policies and procedures statestatutes, maps to maintain awareness of current events and changes in lawenforcement. Augments prisoner escorts and transport as required.Maintains courtroom security to include: magnetically scans all personsentering the courtroom , checks all hand-carried items, ensures that allpersons are directed to the proper courtroom , monitors security status ofall doors, takes into custody all persons remanded to jail by the court,responds to calls for assistance from throughout the courthouse ,fingerprints all persons as directed by the courts or probation department.Maintains and cleans assigned uniform, vehicle and equipment and maintainspersonal hygiene in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.Maintains availability for co
