Read onto learn more!Position OverviewThe Staff Counsel is responsible for assisting in various legal mattersthroughout the organization including all company affiliates and subsidiaries.The primary emphasis for this role will be litigation and claims management,but will offer a diversity of experience through periodic work on contractreview, collections, employment law and drafting and enforcing companypolicies. There is a strong preference for the position to be located at aUniversal facility in the western U.S.Principal Duties / ResponsibilitiesManage outside counsel with litigation matters, including budgetmanagement, alternative fee negotiations, discovery requests, witnessselection and strategic coordination.Manage consumer product claim response and resolution process.Assist with review, interpretation and negotiation of contracts.Assist in developing specific policies and procedures as required.Assist in various projects related to management company intellectualproperty.Assist in the completion of real estate purchase and sale transactions.Ensure that all company operations conform to company policy and federal,state and local laws, rules and regulations.Research substantive law and prepare various reports as required.Performs other duties as required.QualificationsRequired ExperienceLaw degree (JD) from an ABA-accredited US law school.Admitted to practice law in at least one state (MI admission preferred).Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as practicing attorney.Skills and abilitiesExcellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills.Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and thepublic.Ability to work autonomously and report remotely.Ability to work in an environment of dynamic growth and continuousimprovement.Ability to manage numerous projects at once, remain organized and prioritizeworkload.Ability to meet deadlines and to prepare plans, goals and budgets.Ability to be mobile in the work environment and travel as required.Ability to pass a drug test.ConductSelf-managing; works well under little supervisionHighly motivated and enthusiasticGood interpersonal skills and an exceptional communicatorEagerness to learnBe a team player and support the Company's goalsUniversal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
